Haircut and teeth cleaning

Today was what you could call a new "adventure" day for the kids. We went to get Isaiah's haircut -first time at a salon and then took Hannah to the dentist for her first visit. There is a kids dentist and a kids hair place right next to each other in Wilsonville, that I heard about from a friend. I know Wilsonville might seem far, but really its only a 20 min drive and wasn't bad. I thought maybe the kids' hair place would be good, because its all kid oriented - toys, movies, chairs that were cars or airplanes, quiet clippers and it would keep Isaiah occupied enough to not get so upset with the lady cutting his hair. Well, I guess you never know how something will work until you try it - and it didn't work. He was NOT a happy camper AT ALL! I even tried to hold him - that didn't help. Then when she had done all she could with the scissors and needed to straighten some parts up with the clippers, he got down to play in the toys and she tried while he was playing but he knew she was "after him." :) But we somehow got a pretty decent cut, the best she could do with all his moving around. She said she got farther on him than she does on other kids. He was getting really shaggy and it looks SO much better now - although he looks more like a little boy now!

and started down his cheeks... A while later after he calmed down and the finished product After the haircut, we walked across the parking lot for Hannah's turn at the dentist. The place was decked out with toys, computers and all kinds of fun things for kids. It was pretty cool. Thankfully they took our insurance otherwise I wouldn't have gone. :) The assistant and dentist were both very good with her, took the time to chat with her and get down on her level. First thing, she got to choose a toothbrush and chose a Snow White one, since she's into the Disney princesses lately. Then up in the chair she went, got to choose a TV show to watch and opened her mouth big and wide for the cleaning. She even was brave to take x-rays, and they showed her the pictures on the computer monitor - she thought that was pretty cool. The dentist said no cavities, her bite was good and she had lots of space in her mouth, which may possibly mean no braces someday - wouldn't that be nice!! :) They had large stuffed animals - almost as big as she was, they took her picture w/ her choice of one and then she got to choose a toy from the "toy room." After we were all done, back out to the waiting room for me to finish up paperwork and she DID NOT want to leave...too many fun things. I finally got her to leave and took them to lunch at her favorite place - Red Robin, thanks to the dentist for a free kids meal coupon too, so I only had to pay for mine!

Even Isaiah was having a good time - he was intrigued w/ this giraffe
